VR Data Capture Thesis
Graduate research into distributed movement and interaction capture in virtual reality.
- Unity
- C#
- OpenVR
Research Description
Explored distributed movement and interaction capture in virtual reality, with attention to computational efficiency and privacy. Implemented in Unity integrating OpenVR, the underlying methodology was designed to be both framework and engine agnostic. The full thesis is linked at the bottom of the page. There are a few typos in it that still haunt me years later despite how many times I proofread it before submission...
Goals and Applications
- Resultant data can aid in debugging and metric gathering by visualizing/quantifying user movement/interactions in static environments
- Can be used to simulate potential user actions and behaviors using data from users
- Allows data collection while minimizing uniquely identifiable data collected, preserving user privacy
